Ahhh, the matcha latte. The new and hot uprising celebrity of lattes. If you are anywhere on social media, go to any healthy and organic restaurants or search the web, you’ve at least heard of the famous matcha latte. You-tube is filled with instructional videos and every healthy lifestyle blog has probably dedicated at least one post to this new obsession. There was no way I was not going to jump on the matcha latte train. I’ve always enjoyed my warm and comforting mug of tea in the mornings (never been a coffee person.) However, the matcha latte has become my daily cup of happiness. Skip the sugar loaded coffeehouse version and make your own 19 calorie latte at home with my favorite and the simplest recipe:
¾ cups of unsweetened almond milk
¼ cup of hot water
½ to 1 tbsp of matcha (I use ½ a tbsp and prefer to use ceremonial for this drink)
Matcha whisk or regular whisk or spoon
Optional: natural sweetener or no-calorie sweetener (honey, agave, stevia.) I prefer to save the calories and use stevia.
- Heat ¼ cup of water on the microwave, stove or Keurig machine and add it to your matcha.
- Whisk together until your matcha is completely dissolved.
- Warm up almond milk on stove or microwave (doesn’t have to be too hot)
- Pour milk over your matcha and water and enjoy!
Note: Matcha latte can be enjoyed cold over ice as well.
