SOME WORDS FROM OUR FOUNDER AND HER STORY WITH HEALTH- MARICRUZ NAJERA
I’m originally from Monterrey, Mexico but relocated to Austin at age 26. I’m happy to have called Austin my home for the last 8 years. There are many things about Texas’ quirky capital that made me fall in love with it.
Starting with UT Austin: the amazing school in which I got my advertising degree, French minor and business certificate. It was also here where I had some of the best and some of the hardest moments of my life and where the person I am today started really forming.
But it was Austin’s healthy and active atmosphere that ultimately got my heart. I am obsessed with the numerous hiking and running trails and with how many people are always doing some sort of water sport in the city’s numerous lakes. From bicycling through greenbelt, paddle boarding through Lady Bird Lake, running the trail, swimming in Barton Springs pool, enjoying Mount Bonnell views and cliff jumping in Lake Travis, there’s always a new adventure. Then, its Austin’s food. Dozens of food truck parks, local small restaurants, and hidden spots, it truly is culinary paradise.
However, I haven’t always called myself healthy. I’ve struggled with my food habits, acid reflux, energy levels, weight and confidence on and off for as long as I can remember. I went through every fad diet and juice detox out there and the lack of success would only turn into more frustration. I’ve had the bad habit of hiding from anxiety, stress, and frustration behind a mountain of cookies or a gallon of ice cream and avoided dealing with emotions with episodes of binge eating.
There are a lot of things that have helped me get to where I am today. I’ve slowly learned to let out stress and anxiety through more healthy mediums. I’ve learned to accept and understand my issues as well as talk about them with the people I love. I’ve learned that I need to put myself first and take time for me. If you had asked me to go for a run with you 3 years ago, I would’ve laughed at the thought. Today, running and exercising has turned into my therapy and favorite time of the day. I am currently training for my first Half Marathon and triathlon. Most importantly, taking care of me, my body and my mind has become my priority. It is not about the weight I’ve lost, but about everything I’ve gained, including a love for life and myself. Every day I keep finding out just how much I can accomplish and the number of great days long surpass the number of bad ones. As I completely changed the way I thought about nutrition, I realized the importance of knowing exactly what I put in my body and in turn found a love for cooking. The excitement of finding and creating new recipes and healthy substitutes was where I fell in love with Matcha.
I’ve been fortunate enough to travel a lot. It was on one of my trips to Asia that I discovered Matcha. I’d been a loyal fan of green tea for a while now and had noticed a lot of health benefits. Naturally, learning that one cup of Matcha has the effects of 10 cups of green tea, caught my attention. Since then, I take a cup of Matcha tea or Matcha latte every morning before my morning workout and every day I keep finding new and exciting ways to sneak it into my recipes. Not only did it make my food taste better, but it made me feel better. I can honestly say Matcha helped me kick-start new eating habits, overall healthy and happy lifestyle.
I noticed changes in my energy and stress levels, mood, as well as an overall feeling of wellbeing. Then, I introduced Matcha to my mother. She was hesitant at first but now can’t seem to travel anywhere without her Matcha bag. At 51, she is in the best shape she has ever been and has enough energy to keep up with me and my crazy workout ideas. However, we found ourselves spending ridiculous amounts of money ordering Matcha online and even more time waiting for it to arrive. Which is why we decided to start this business. Matcha is growing in popularity in the US and we want to help make pure, high-quality organic Matcha more accessible and affordable for everyone that might benefit from it. We want Matcha Matcha to help people kick off their lifestyle change, just as it has helped us.
